Essay Mrs.Frisby and the Rats of NIMH

The things that are the same in the book and movie are the rats live in the rose bush. Another similarity is the rats were almost exterminated but Mrs. Frisby warned them.

The movie is quite different than the book because Jenner killed Nicodemus by causing Mrs. Frisbys’ home to fall on him. Also in the movie Jenner and Justin fought because he wanted Mrs. Frisbys’ necklace. Also Mr. Ages lived in a piece of old equipment.

In the book Jenner was already gone because he didn’t like the plan to move. In the book Nicodemus was missing an eye because of Dragon. Also one rat died in the toxic gas.

The book and movie Comparison

I really liked the book Mrs. Frisby and the rats of NIMH and the movie, and, The Secret of NIMH also. The movie and the book were so dramatically different and the same time, so a like. Even thought the movie was way shorter than the book I liked that their was some new material mixed because it was only based on the book and not completely the same.
Some of the differences I discovered were that Mrs. Frisby had to save her house by moving it into the lee of the stone (because of the plough) and to do that she would ask the rats for help. When the rats finally agree to help, Nicodemous goes to watch how the move is going. Finally when they finished
moving the house the exterminators come the next day and smoke out 2 of the four rats on guard. When Mrs. Frisby was trapped in the Fitzgibbons house Mr. Fitzgibbon was talking about the scientists coming to the town to investigate some peculiar activity in the rats. That just about sums up the book.
While in the movie the rat’s events went the same, the movie had Nicodemus dying, Jenner still in the colony, and Mrs. Frisby had a magical amulet.
Over all I like the book and the movie all the same.

Mrs. Frisby and the rats of Nimh

In my grade seven class we read “Mrs. Frisby and the rats of Nimh,” we also watched, “The Secret Nimh”. It’s the same idea but the events happen at different times.

In the book and the movie I spotted a couple of similarities, so here they are. I’ve noticed that there are rats, Mrs. Frisby’s still in there and so is Dragon. They also managed to squeeze in how Mrs. Frisby snuck into Mr. Fitzgibbon’s house to put powder in Dragon’s food, also the hole that the rats found to sneak in to Mr. Fitzgibbon’s house to place the powder in Dragon’s food. Another thing is that the rats moved to Thorn Valley. All the same characters in there.
Now that we talked over the similarities let’s talk about the differences. Here are some differences I’ve noticed. The necklace that Mrs.Frisby was given not magical in the book but in the movie it lit up to get the kids and the house out of the mud. Nicodemus doesn’t die in the book but he dies in the movie. In the book the settings were the laboratory and around the farm but in the movie the settings were at the farm and where the rats got the powder ready. Another thing I noticed that the cylinder that Mrs. Frisby lived in, did not sink but in the movie it sunk.
So as you can see what you read it books does not always happen in the movies.

Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH comparison

In the book of Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH, Mr. Ages was open-minded and kind, the lady shrew was not mean until the rats came to move Mrs. Frisby’s house but even then she was just worried that the rats were stealing Mrs. Frisby’s house, the shrew was smaller than the mice, Martin (Mrs. Frisby’s eldest son) was 1.Patient, 2.Intelligent, and 3.Gentle, Jeremy was not the smartest crow, but not the dumbest crow, and last but certainly not least THE BOOK WAS EXCELLENT!!!
In the movie however… Mr. Ages was Grumpy and rude, the shrew… well name explains her personality in the movie, Martin was insensitive and dumb, and Jeremy was careless about everything he did, AND THE MOVIE WAS HORRIBLE!!!
The similarities are that Mrs. Frisby, Jeremy, Nicodemus, Timothy, Cynthia, Teresa, the shrew, Justin, and Mr. Ages were all in the book and in the movie.
So basically the book was absolutely amazing! But the movie was just painful to watch after reading such a good book. My advice to you if you haven’t watched the movie of Mrs. Frisby... PLEASE DON’T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Movie and Book Comparison

The movie and the book are the same because they have the same characters, the inside of the inside of the rosebush is described the same and so is the Fitzgibbon house.
The movie and the book are different because the movie went by faster, there was a lot of action like Justin and Jenner were fighting, and Mrs. Frisby had magical powers when she touched the amulet Nicodemus gave her, the house fell in mud, Jenner cut the rope that was holding Mrs. Frisby’s and all that didn’t happen in the book.
In the book there were more details about the characters. In the book Jenner was gone before Mrs. Frisby came to visit the rats in the rosebush. The both ending’s were different.

Comparison

The book Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nimh was quite a bit different from the movie The Secret of Nimh. The characters are different in a lot of ways. In the book Mrs. Frisby never met or saw Jenner before but in the movie she meets him. In the book Nicodemus lives while in the movie he dies. In the movie Jeremy meets another crow and in the book he doesn’t meet anyone. In the movie Mrs. Fribys name is Mrs. Brisby.
The actions are different too. In the book there’s no amulet and in the movie there is one. In the movie the stool Billy was sitting on over the food in the book wasn’t there in the movie. Also while they were moving Mrs. Frisby’s house in the movie it fell but in the book the house didn’t fall. That’s a few things that are different about the book and movie!

Similarities and Differences in the Characters

The characters and their actions are quite different in the book and in the movie. It really disappointed me in a lot of ways. There weren’t many similarities to be honest.

The differences were unreal! In the book, Jenner had already been gone, but in the movie Jenner was there and he was very evil. He tried to kill Mrs. Frisby, and had killed Nicodemus so that he could be in charge of all the rats. Nicodemus in the book wasn’t scary looking or old, but in the movie he was. Mrs. Frisby didn’t have magic powers in the book but she did in the movie. Also, in the movie Mrs. Frisby fell in the water while helping Jeremy nor did she loose her medicine that Mr. Ages made for Timothy. That didn’t happen in the book. Jeremy never met a girl crow in the novel, but did in the movie. The shrew (which was their neighbor) wasn’t the kid’s aunt, nor was she cranky in the book but she was in the movie! That really surprised me! At the end of the novel, Martin had said he wanted to go visit the rats and to figure out why they helped his family and which one died, so basically he wanted to know more about them. In the book Mrs. Frisby’s name wasn’t Mrs. Brisby, but it was in the movie! Also in the book, Paul was a character living at Mr. Fitzgibbons house, but in the movie he wasn’t existing.

The Similarities in the book and the movie were that they were the same amount of rats in the movie and in the novel, just different personalities and actions. Mr. and Mrs. Fitzgibbon were the same except for the fact I thought they’d be older. Also, Billy is the same I pictured while reading the book, in the movie. Mrs. Frisby and the children aren’t any different in their looks as I also pictured in the novel. Jeremy was dumb in the movie as well in the novel.
